Sony Ericsson Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread rollout begins in Nordic countries, UK to follow next month

Sony Ericsson has officially started rolling out its wave of 2.3.4. Gingerbread updates to this year’s range of Xperia Android phones.

The updates will first of all be arriving in ‘the Nordic countries’ with the UK and the rest of the world to start getting them “late October going into early November”. The update will be available for all unlocked phones first and “most operator variants” but there will be the usual delays with each of the networks doing their testing.

As well as updating the phones to 2.3.4, you’ll also get a number of other new features including a 3D sweep panoramic shot (which we’ve seen in action on an unfinished Xperia Arc S), Google Talk and video chat for phones with front-facing cameras (like the Xperia Neo) and the ability to share apps on Facebook.

Already begun?

We first heard that the phased rollout wouldn’t begin until October. So this news won’t make much difference to us in the UK. But we’d previously heard reports of some owners of the Xperia Neo in Holland getting some 2.3.4 fun early – maybe on some maps the Netherlands is considered Nordic.

We should have more info on exactly when these updates will be coming to the UK and on which networks next month.

Until then, check out the video below for an idea of how your upgraded Sony Ericsson Xperia phone will look and work.
