Spotify for Android redesigned with ICS support: preview available

The team over at Spotify have been busy reworking the Android-flavoured version of their mobile app, which is now available to preview, adding full support for Android 4.0: Ice Cream Sandwich.

Spotify has made a preview of the redesign available, not only has the UI undergone a complete overhaul, simplifying navigation, but the cleaner feel permeates throughout the entire user experience. Users will be able to view ‘new look’ friends’ profiles and share artist pages. There’s also a related artist view tool, improved navigation including a slide out control panel and the app’s photos and artwork have been upgraded to a higher resolution.

As it stands this newer, brighter, cleaner version of the Android app is yet to make it to Google Play whilst the team add the finishing touches. We encountered a couple of glitchy characters and Spotify’s press release states that more features are yet to be including; such as folders and Last FM scrobbling, but on the whole we definitely approve of the update.

For those eager to try it out right now, you’ll have to allow ‘Unknown Sources’ on your Android device and be a Spotify Premium user, before heading here to pick it up for yourself, bearing in mind it’s not yet a finished product. We also recommend unticking that ‘Unknown Sources’ option once you’re done, just to be safe.

Spotify is on a roll right now, a newly announced partnership with Coca-Cola in the US under its belt and talk of an iPad-friendly iOS app most certainly in the works too. Let us know what you think of the redesign if you’re planning on picking it up.
