Toshiba Excite X10 (AT200) world’s slimmest tablet confirmed for US

Toshiba has confirmed it will be releasing the ‘world’s slimmest tablet’ into the US market in the early part of 2012, called the Excite X10.

At just 7.7mm deep and weighing 535g, with a 10.1-inch screen we first heard rumour of an Excite tablet in August 2011 when the patent was registered. Now Toshiba has released full specifications and it appears to be the Toshiba AT200, we saw at IFA 2011, but now renamed for the US market.

The Excite X10 is powered by a dual core Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 processor and 1GB RAM. Toshiba states it runs the ‘latest Android technology,’ we’re presuming it’s Honeycomb. The 10.1-inch 1280×800 screen is made from scratch resistant Gorilla Glass, with anti smudge-coating and IPS technology.

Front facing and rear cameras have resolutions of 2-megapixels and 5-megapixels respectively, both capture full HD 1920×1080 video. As well as a microUSB, there are micro HDMI and a microSD slots, along with bluetooth and WiFi.

Currently the Excite X10 launch date is Q1 in the US at $529 for 16GB or $599 for 32GB; which makes it around the same price as the Apple iPad 2. There’s no news on whether it will come to the UK, but we’ll bring you more news when we get it.
