Xperia Ray set for August release date in UK

Carphone Warehouse has added a pre-launch page for the recently announced Xperia Ray, Sony Ericsson’s latest slimline smartphone that packs a lot of the hardware found in the pricier Xperia Arc and Neo.

Allthough CPW haven’t given us a concrete release date just yet, it’s a far closer than the Q3 2011 target announced alongside Sony Ericsson’s new phone range, which also included the Xperia Active.

You can register on the site for email updates when pre-orders become available.

Like several new phones in the Sony Ericsson Xperia range, the Xperia Ray’s 3.3-inch touchscreen uses Sony’s Mobile Bravia engine for deeper hues and tones. There’s also an Exmor R image sensor, able to suck in eight-megapixel stills and high-definition video.

Like all new Xperia models this year, the Ray will arrive with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and Facebook inside Xperia software, embedding some convenient Facebook shortcuts and features throughout the Xperia Ray.
