Google Nexus 7 by Asus: 32GB model confirmed for holiday season

The Argos catalogue for the forthcoming season has let slip that the Nexus 7 will now go on sale in the UK with a 32GB capacity option.

The Google Nexus 7 is one of the best selling Android tablets of all time. That’s a sentence both Google and Asus are well aware of and they expect popularity for the tablet to endure despite the forthcoming arrival of the Apple iPad Mini which is said to be unveiled later this month.

Google Nexus 7 32GB

The introduction of a 32GB Nexus 7 not only satisfies demand for more storage following the criticisms which befell the 8GB model, but as identified by Android Central’s Alex Dobie, the price point for the new larger capacity model sits at £199, apparently replacing that of the current 16GB option. This feeds into talk of a price drop of the 16GB model which saw heavy demand at release, even surprising Google when it initially went on sale and proceeded to sell out at retailers on either side of the Atlantic.

The new 32GB Nexus 7 will, for all intents and purposes feature the same innards as its smaller capacity counterparts, albeit with more space for users to locally store media and install apps. The Nexus 7 features a 7-inch HD display, the same 1.3GHz quad-core chip found in the Asus Transformer Pad TF300, 1GB of RAM and a 1.2-megapixel front facing camera. We don’t know if the extra space adds any excess weight to the tablet, but in its current state, it’s already so light that users are unlikely to find the new model cumbersome.

Availability is yet to be confirmed but expect it at the latest to arrive in store and online from the start of next month.
