BT Sport Extra scores more football for Sky and BT TV viewers

BT Sport subscribers who get their football kicks via Sky or BT TV can now tap into BT Sport Extra, a new channel/red button service.

BT Sport Extra, designed to sidestep clashes with other fixtures, will let you watch matches from the German Bundesliga, French Ligue 1, Portuguese Primera Liga and the Brazilian premier league Brasileirao.

This is automatically included as a free channel in your BT Sport subscription so there’s no extra cost. The first game to arrive on BT Sport Extra – Bordeaux v Evian – kicks off tonight at 7:30pm.

At the moment, only Sky TV and BT TV customers with a BT Sport subscription can get BT Sport Extra. The new channel will be coming to Virgin Media customers in the coming weeks but no date has been announced yet.

To tune into BT Sport Extra, you’ll need to hit the red button on your Sky remote when watching BT Sport on Sky. BT TV customers can get BT Sport Extra by heading over to channel 527 on the BT TV guide.

Alternatively, if you’ve got a BT Broadband connection you can watch the action live online or through the BT Sport apps

Simon Green, head of BT Sport, said: “Reach is at the heart of BT Sport and we are continually looking at new ways to enhance our viewers’ experience.

“BT Sport Extra provides sports fans with access to even more live sporting action whether that’s on TV, via the red button, app or online.”

BT said that a small number of BT TV customers who get BT Sport through their TV aerial instead of through their broadband connection won’t be able to access BT Sport Extra.

Customers with a BT broadband connection but don’t have a Sky or BT TV subscription will still be able to watch BT Sport Extra live on their TVs if they have a Chromecast. BT made its iOS and Android BT Sport apps Chromecast compatible back in April meaning you can still get all of the sporting action on your TV set without needing an expensive TV subscription.

Upcoming BT Sport Extra fixtures include:

  • French Ligue 1 Lille v Montpellier 21 September 1pm
