Five-door Mini Hatch is a bigger, roomier version of the three-door.
A five-door Mini Hatch has just been announced, bringing with it practicality and space over the three-door but not at the expense of the model’s trademark exterior styling. No more opting for the Clubman if you like extra door handles on your motor.

The five-door Mini Hatch is virtually the same as the 2014 three-door (reviewed in glorious video here), except for being 161mm longer and 11mm taller, giving the occupants 15mm more headroom and 278-litres of boot space ─ up by 67-litres. The wheelbase has been extended by 72mm, while a third small rear seat has been added.
A 3-cylinder petrol with 136hp can be found in the bottom of the range Cooper model. Then there’s a 4-cylinder petrol with 192hp used in the Mini Cooper S, 3-cylinder diesel with 116hp in the Mini Cooper D and a new 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel with 170hp for the Mini Cooper SD.
The Cooper S Hatch has a 0 to 62mph time of 6.8 seconds, while the Cooper D can manage 78.5mpg and less than 100g/km of CO2 emissions. Halfway between the two is the Cooper SD, which can his 0 to 62mph in 7.4 seconds and sip fuel to the tune of 68.9mpg.
A six-speed manual gearbox is standard. The six-speed automatic with stop and start technology will set you back a few pounds extra.
Inside the Mini Hatch five-door is an 8.8-inch display and Mini’s Touch Controller for controlling the infotainment system. USB and Bluetooth connectivity, front fog lamps, air-conditioning (can be specified for free) and electrically adjustable external mirrors also come as standard.
Automatic windscreen wipers, panoramic glass roof, rear LED lights, head-up display, Harman Kardon stereo, sports leather steering wheel, Park Distance Control, heated and folding exterior mirrors and two-zone automatic air-conditioning can be specified on top of all the various colour and styling options.
The Mini Cooper five-door Hatch starts from £15,900. A Cooper D and Cooper S will set you back from £17,050 and £19,255, respectively. Topping the range is the £20,050 Cooper SD. Expect the new model to arrive in the autumn.
