A small US start-up has created a prototype motorcycle helmet accessory that lights up when the rider uses the controls on the handlebars.
BikeLink attaches to the base of your helmet and connects to your bike’s electrical system via a small transmitter. This gives it the ability to relay signals from just about any switch on the bike. Flick the indicator and the corresponding half of the BikeLink will flash. Hit the brake and the entire thing will light up. They can even stay on permanently to function as running lights, which could help the rider remain more visible at night.
BikeLink’s lights can be supplied in a variety of colours, so customers can customise their device to match their bike colour, the colour of their bike club or their attire if they so desire. If you own multiple bikes, that’s no problem as BikeLink can be matched to up to two separate motorycles. Even pillion passengers can get in on the action, as BikeLink’s transmitter unit is able to handle two helmets at once.
Sadly, BikeLink isn’t yet available to buy, but its creators are seeking $75,000 of funding to make the product a commercial reality via the Fundable Web site. At the time of writing BikeLink has racked up £8,594 of the total needed. If you like the idea of the project and don’t mind handing over a pledge of $109, BikeLink will sent you a unit if and when it reaches its fundraising target.
