Ferrari’s flagship hypercar has been revealed for the first time at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The secretive project, which was unofficially dubbed ‘the new Enzo‘ will henceforth be known as the Ferrari LaFerrari. No, seriously. It’s a Ferrari so good, they called it Ferrari twice.
The Ferrari LaFerrari (that’s Italian for ‘the Ferrari’ in case you were wondering) is as visually arresting as it is oddly named. It’s low slung, with an aggressive front end that sports a Formula 1-look wing. It’s sleek in profile, with a stunning a concave detail on the doors, which flows cleverly into a duct ahead of the rear wheel arches. There’s plenty of subtle and not-so-subtle detail at the rear, including a huge diffuser and the now customary transparent engine bay.
Speaking of engines, the Ferrari the Ferrari is powered by a hybrid powertrain. Ferrari’s Hy-Kers technology includes a a 12-cylinder engine, a 7-speed clutch and a pair of electric motors – one used to send power to the rear wheels and another to power ancillary devices. Peak combined power output is a whopping 963bhp. Ferrari hasn’t confirmed torque figures for the LaFerrari, but expect it to be in the region of 900Nm.
The Ferrari LaFerrari’s performance numbers have yet to be confirmed, but it’ll hit 0-60mph in under 3 seconds and reach a top speed in excess of 217mph (many expect it to be as high as 230mph). Whatever the case, it’ll be brutally quick. Ferrari says The LaFerrari will lap its Fiorano test circuit in 1 minute 20 seconds, which is a whopping 5 seconds quicker than the legendary Ferrari Enzo and 3 seconds quicker than the F12 Berlinetta.
It should be relatively green, too. Ferrari says it chucks out CO2 at a rate of 330g/km, which is 20g/km less than the F12 (though considerably higher than the McLaren P1‘s 200g/km figure). Fuel consumption figures are yet to be confirmed.
