Bespoke fuschia pink McLaren 720S: Yay or nay?

They say money can’t buy class but it can certainly buy you a very bright one-of-a-kind McLaren 720S in fuschia pink, if that sort of thing floats your boat.

British manufacturer McLaren has unveiled a bespoke version of the 720S supercar that will be rather hard to miss, thanks to its eye-searing fuschia pink paintjob.

The 720S was created by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) for US entrepreneur Michael Fux, a man with an enviably large collection of exotic cars, and was publically unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance show in Monterey, California.

Besides the ‘fux fuschia’ paintjob, which was created specifically for Mr Fux by Rolls-Royce and can only be used by him on other McLaren cars, this particular 720S features a white leather interior with the body colour providing highlights on the steering wheel and rear-view mirror.

The white leather is actually made specifically for this particular 720S by McLaren Special Operations, including the white stitching. Meanwhile the floor mats are also white with white stitching, finished in fancy Alcantara.

Non-bespoke additions to the Michael Fux 720S include stealth grey exhaust and window surrounds and an extra big serving of carbon fibre componentry.

This is actually the fourth McLaren commissioned by Michael Fux. He also owns an orange 12C, bespoke purple 12C Spider and a bespoke green P1 hypercar (told you the collection was enviable).

McLaren Special Operations is a division of McLaren that specialises in tailoring a car exactly to their wannabe owner’s specifications.

“MSO provides McLaren owners with virtually limitless possibilities to tailor a car exactly to their needs and tastes; unique paint colours and finishes, custom leather and stitching and exotic materials are all available within a bespoke commission, while beyond this there are opportunities all the way up to complete vehicles designed to individual specification,” explained Jolyon Nash, automotive executive director of global sales and marketing.

McLaren says it will be keeping the price of the fux fuschia 720S to itself, but a standard 720S starts in Luxury specification starts from £218,020 if you want some idea of how deep you would need to dig for something similar.

Big cash, indeed, but then the 710bhp 720S can manage 0-60mph in 2.9 seconds, 0-100mph in 5.6 seconds and reach 190mph in a standing mile. Compared with the cost of a hypercar, that is actually rather good value.
