Hennessey Viper Venom 700R and 1000 Twin Turbo upgrade packs promise more power

If the 2013 Dodge Viper SRT is a little too mundane for you, then chances are you’re mentally insane. Luckily for you, so are the car tuners at Hennessey Performance, who have managed to extract yet more power from the standard car.

Hennessey's upgrade packs can give the Viper in excess of 1,100bhp.
Hennessey’s upgrade packs can give the Viper in excess of 1,100bhp.

The company is offering Viper owners two upgrade packs known as the Venom 700R and Venom 1000 Twin Turbo. The former builds on on the Viper SRT’s 640bhp and 600lb/ft of torque, delivering 725bhp and 695lb/ft of torque, allowing you to get to 60mph in 3.1 seconds, hit a top speed of 216mph and complete a quarter mile drag race in 10.7 seconds.

The performance increase is achieved thanks to the installation of a new stainless steel 3-inch exhaust system, a K&N air filter to help the engine take in larger breaths, high-flow cylinder heads and some recalibration of the engine management system. Normally this level of fettling can put undue stress on an engine but Hennessey is so confident in its work, it’s even offering a three-year or 36,000 mile limited warranty.

If all of that sounds a little too tame, the 1000 Twin Turbo engine upgrade might be more up your street. For this version, Hennessey has bolted on two precision ball bearing turbochargers, a front-mounted intercooler, upgraded fuel injectors, an upgraded fuel pump and a whole host of other shiny new parts. As a result, that huge V10 generates a face-melting 1,120bhp and 1,092lb/ft of torque. That’s good for 60mph in 2.7 seconds and a quarter mile time of 9.7 seconds at 152mph.

Tellingly, Hennessey only offers a 1 year or 12,000-mile warranty on the Venom 1000, which we think is a bit mean. If you’re still alive after driving one for a year they should give you some sort of medal.

When it’s done fettling your engine Hennessey can, for a price, offer you a variety of non-engine related optional upgrades. These include a VenomAero carbon fibre splitter, spoiler, and wing, as rear differential cooler (which is recommended for track driving), a rollbar and – crucially, a 2.5lb Halon fire extinguisher.

Venom has yet to set a price for the 700R or 1000 Twin Turbo tuning upgrades, but if you are mad enough to want even more power and already own a Dodge Viper 2013 SRT, money is probably a non-issue.
