Honda Civic Type R Concept is a ‘racing car for the road’

Honda Civic Type R and NSX concept cars set for Geneva Motor Show unveiling.

Honda has offered a sneak-preview of the cars it will be showing off at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2014. Feast your eyes on the the Civic Type R Concept, NSX Concept and the FCEV Concept, folks.

Honda has dubbed the forthcoming Honda Civic Type R a ‘racing car for the road’. Unofficial reports say the Type R will be powered by a 280hp 2.0-litre petrol mated to a 6-speed manual and will 0 to 62mph in an impressive 5.5 seconds, which would put it on an even keel with the Seat Leon Cupra 280. Honda is yet to confirm any details.

Replacing the current spoiler, which always reminded us of a disabled toilet handle, is a two-layered version similar to that found on the Type R Mugen. A sleek rear-diffuser, twin-pipe exhaust exits on either side of the car, flared wheel arches and red rear lights on the spoiler that look a bit like devil horns inject a much-needed shot of aggression.

Honda also released an image of the NSX Concept, which will showcase a ‘longitudinal’ twin-turbo V6 and Honda’s all-wheel drive Sport Hybrid system. Like with the Type R, official details are non-existent.

The third car teased by Honda is the FCEV Concept first seen at the 2013 LA Auto Show. Honda says the concept provides a glimpse into the design direction it has planned for its next-generation fuel cell electric vehicles. The FCEV will launch in Japan and the US in 2015 followed by Europe.

All cars will debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 4th ─ stay tuned for details.
