How do you make a Ferrari 458 Spider stand out? Wrap it in gold, of course.
Some of us like the understated look. Others want to be a bit louder. Some, like kickboxing world champion Riyadh al-Azzawi, clearly want maximum attention wherever they go as the following Ferrari will attest.
The Arab kickboxing champ decided to have his £200,000 Ferrari 458 Spider wrapped in a gold vinyl. The result is an ultra-shiny prancing horse that attracts attention wherever it cruises, dividing opinion like a, well, gold Ferrari. James Bond villain Goldfinger would be proud.
YouTube user Shmee150 spotted the car parked in Kensington in London back on March 29th. Reports say Azzawi had left the golden beast parked outside while training at a gym. In the video you can see the interior is red. The paint colour below the wrap is said to be grey.
Modifying a car like a Ferrari is nigh-on sacrilege ─ the original design is a work of art in itself. But in some ways the wrapping job, which allegedly cost £4,000, is so brilliantly done we actually like it. A whacky paintjob is, after all, miles better than go-faster stripes, aftermarket bodykits and neon lights.
YouTube comments on the gold Ferrari are a mixed bag. “How to ruin a great car,” one YouTuber said. “Beautiful car – shit colour,” said another. Some embraced the boldness. “I wouldn’t do it for mine, but looks sick!”
The Ferrari 458 has a 4.5-litre V8 that develops 562hp and 540Nm of torque. 0 to 62mph takes 3.2 seconds and the top speed is 202mph. The more recent 458 Speciale develops 592bhp.
