Jaguar may be about to follow in the footsteps of its sister brand Land Rover in making an off-roader. Autocar magazine reports the company is set to reveal a luxury 4×4 SUV in time for the Frankfurt motor show in September.
The car magazine believes Jaguar Land Rover owner Tata Motors has given the project the green light, so we could see some sort of all terrain-conquering Jag on UK roads in the not-too-distant future. The mag believes it could launch in the UK as soon as 2016.
Autocar says JLR has been conducting customer clinics to ascertain whether a Jaguar 4×4 design could be successful. Jaguar will, it believes, most likely use the new aluminium PLA platform designed to underpin all the company’s future cars, and that the vehicle will most likely be a crossover ─ similar in style to the Range Rover Evoque.
Given the rise in popularity of SUVs, and more recently crossovers, it’s perhaps not such a surprise to learn Jaguar might be contemplating such a product. All of the company’s major rivals offer some form of crossover or SUV, so it could make sense to follow suit.
