Start saving your pennies; Jaguar has confirmed the release date and price of its C-X17 SUV. The ‘sports crossover’ will go on sale in 2016 for a relatively affordable cost of roughly £30,000, putting it in direct competition with the Audi Q5 and BMW X3.
The vehicle will be built on a new aluminium architecture that is a first of its kind in the segment. Jaguar promises it will be high strength, light weight and extremely stiff, which bodes well for safety, efficiency and handling.
Jaguar has yet to confirm exact specs for the C-X17, but it is expected to offer a range of engine choices, not least those from its new family of high-output diesels. The company says in the future it will offer vehicles that promise class-leading performance, including top speeds of over 186mph and emissions lower than 100g of CO2 per kilometre, although it has not confirmed whether the C-X17 specifically will achieve either benchmark.
We’ll also have to wait and see whether Jaguar will tone down some of the more outlandish features seen on the current concept. Currently, the vehicle comes with four individual bucket seats and even has torch and camera accessories, but it’s unlikely all of these will come as standard.
Some of the fancier interior technologies, specifically the Interactive Surface Console (a multi-screen, socially-connected infotainment system) may also have to be toned down.
We’ll update you with more information on the Jaguar C-X17 in due course.
