Jaguar F-Type to go manual and all-wheel-drive?

Internet rumours suggest the Jaguar F-Type will get a manual box and all-wheel-drive.

Jaguar is putting a manual gearbox into the F-type — or so Twitter tells us. According to Motor Trend writer, Jonny Lieberman, the much-hyped sports car is getting both a manual transmission option and all-wheel drive (AWD).

Though there hasn’t been any official confirmation from Jaguar on the subject, Lieberman is percieved as a a pretty reliable sort. If true, such options would make the F-Type very tempting for anyone that might have been considering a Porsche 911 Carrera 4 or Audi R8, both of which feature manual gearboxes and AWD.

As lovely as the 8-speed automatic gearbox is, the news of manual transmission will no doubt be music to the ears of those that like a more hands-on driving experience. All-wheel drive will, however, bring additional weight to the vehicle — although hopefully not to the detriment of the car’s driving dynamics.

Whatever guise it comes in, the F-Type is many a petrolhead’s dream machine. In top-spec supercharged V8 F-Type R guise it produces 542bhp and will do 0-60mph in 4 seconds dead. Read our test drive verdict here.
