Old man Lamborghini turns 50 this year and rather than put his feet up and retire, he’s celebrating by putting out a special anniversary version of the Aventador, known – someone unimaginatively — as the Aventador LP720-4 50 Anniversario Edition.
The car will go on show at the Shanghai Motor Show later this year, but pictures of the thing have already leaked online and you can them in their full glory right here, right now, thanks to the guys at Autobild.
The most obvious addition to the 50th Anniversary car is the searing Giallo Maggio (That’s Italian for ‘yellow may’) paintwork and matching interior. Look beneath all that (if your retinas still work) and you’ll find a throbbing V12 that kicks out 720bhp. The standard Aventador LP700-4 manages twenty fewer horses, as its moutful of a name indicates.
The increased output should give the LP720-4 50 Anniversario Edition improved performance, particularly through the gears, though its 0-62mph acceleration and top speed times are unchanged at 2.9 seconds and 217mph, respectively.
According to Autobild, the LP720-4 50 Anniversario Edition will be fitted with a special carbon fibre body kit that is reprotedly 50 per cent more efficient than the standard kit, though whether that equates to more or less downforce or efficiency we’ll have to wait and see.
Lamborghini will only build 100 examples of the LP720-4 50 Anniversario Edition. Pricing is yet to be confirmed, but we expect they’ll sell every single one in a matter of seconds if history is anything to go by.
