Nintendo has announced a collaboration between itself and Mercedes-Benz. Mario Kart 8 will get three models from Mercedes in a bid to promote the GLA crossover.
The free downloadable content (DLC) for Mario Kart 8 will give players a Mercedes-Benz 1934 W25 Silver Arrow, 1957 300 SL Roadster and, as you’ve probably guessed, 2014 GLA to blast around in.
Other additions in the update include online multiplayer stability improvements, the ability to save a kart setup and new stats to check out such as your online win/loss record.
So far it looks like a Japan-only release, with a month-long Mercedes Cup online competition marking the event. Hopefully the UK and US are treated to the update, which will be available from August 27th, 2014.
Video games and car manufacturer collaborations are more common than you might think. The Toyota FT-1 concept was actually conceived with the help of Gran Turismo.
Mario Kart 8 is available now on the Nintendo Wii U games console. Check out a video of the new Mercedes carts in action and then the slightly odd advert below, complete with an unnecessarily muscly Italian plumber.
