Mitsubishi Evo X returns with 440bhp

Stonkingly fast Mitsubishi limited edition Evo X revealed.

Forget the birthday cake, party hats and streamers. Mitsubishi is celebrating its 40th anniversary in Europe with the return of a very special Evo X. By special we mean the fastest and most powerful production Evo. Ever.

The Evo X FQ-440 MR has been given even more power than its predecessor. A tubular Janspeed exhaust, hefty HKS turbo, ECU remap and an even bigger radiator help the 2.0-litre output a whopping 440bhp (hence the name) and 412lb/ft of torque.

Other extras make the Evo X a bit special. It has 35mm lower suspension so speed bumps will quickly become enemy number one, 18-inch BBS alloy wheels, Alcon brake system with six-piston calipers at the front, Xenon lamps and a spare pair of pants for when you put your foot down too quickly. Okay, so we lied about the last one.

The interior has been revamped, too. New Recaro bucket seats sit you in front of a new 7-inch sat nav display with Bluetooth connectivity, which is hooked up to an 8-speaker audio system. There’s also climate control and a data recorder for logging how you drive.

Mitsubishi will reportedly void your warranty if it catches you driving like a lunatic. That’s a bit like penalising an old person for using a hand rail ─ the Evo X is designed to be driven hard (within the legal limits, of course).

Just 40 Evo Xs will be coming to the UK, all of which will come in a Frost White colour so you better start getting used to it. It will cost £50,000 when it goes on sale later in 2014.
