Police responded when eyewitnesses later reported that the naked man had started doing push-ups in the middle of the street. Officers were on their way to the location when another called reported that a pedestrian had been hit on the westbound lane of Columbia Boulevard. The pedestrian was later identified as Hunter.

The 43-year-old man was pronounced dead by officers and emergency services at the scene. According to Portland Police Bureau, the driver of the vehicle involved was present at the scene of the incident and fully cooperated with the investigation. The driver, who has not been identified, was not found to be intoxicated or under the influence of drugs while in control of her 2010 Honda Civic.

Meanwhile, the Oregon State Medical Examiner is due to conduct an autopsy to establish Hunter’s cause of death. This will include toxicology to understand further why Hunter put himself in such danger.
