New Renault Clio RS teased

Renault has unleashed a teaser image and a few details of a new version of the Clio RS supermini said to be known as the ‘KZ 01’.

The new Frenchie is “a very special Clio RS” that will mark the 40th birthday of Renault’s Formula One team and will be unveiled at the Monaco Grand Prix on the 27th of May, 2016. And that’s about all Renault has announced.

From what we can see in the pictures, the Clio RS has a spoiler because it can, sleek black alloys because they look great and five doors because that’s what the existing Clio has.

It also has a black and yellow colour scheme going on, which mirrors that of Renault’s Formula One cars and will ensure maximum attention wherever it goes.

A Greek website that leaked a number of images of the Clio KZ 01 claims it has been extensively modified in terms of its powertrain and bodywork. We can only pray a manual gearbox is one of the revisions as the auto felt wrong.

As for horses, it will almost certainly cram at least 217 under the bonnet as that is what the current Clio has – but we get the feeling it could be more knowing it marks a special occasion. Some reports have suggested it will use the fastest Megane’s engine, giving it a total of 271bhp.

Renault Sport Cars managing director Patrice Ratti said: “We successfully completed the project of a slightly crazy car. It was a joint effort by the Renault Sport Cars and Renault Sport Racing teams. This Clio R.S. refines the expertise of Renault Sport engineers whilst exploring new avenues for the future.”

The wait for the full reveal will be brief so check out the image below and let us know what you think of the car in the meantime.
