If you are averse to seeing beautiful, highly expensive and rare cars in a bad way, do yourself a favour and look away now.
A young, unnamed driver was reportedly taking a spirited drive along highway 84 in California when he overestimated his skill level and ended up flipping a Verde Scandal Lamborghini Aventador, causing major damage.
How the driver managed the feat isn’t clear, but we’re almost 100 per cent sure excessive speed and over-confidence played their part. The road is notoriously bendy with overhanging trees, fallen leaves and a lack of sunlight makign it rather slippery.
Some reports say the driver of the Verde Scandal Aventador was 17 years old, others say he was 19. Most estimate the car had somewhere between 300 and 400 miles on the clock before it met its maker at the hands of the reckless ‘yout’.
The car was reportedly on sale in February of this year for US$500,000 (£310,000).
Hooniverse reader Scandinavian Flick, who was nearby when the accident happened, commented:
“I was sitting with some friends at Alice’s Restaurant in Woodside, CA. It’s at the corner of some very popular and awesome driving roads, so it’s not uncommon to see some very impressive cars. One group came through, causing a bit of a stir as they revved and sped off down Highway 84. A pair of GT-Rs, a Ferrari 360 Modena, a green Lamborghini Aventador, a Ferrari 458 Italia, and a modified flat black BMW X5.”
“About 5 minutes after they passed, two fire trucks came out of the fire station behind the restaurant, sirens blaring, heading in the same direction the exotics went down. I sarcastically quipped that the 458 must have caught fire. Shortly after we finished eating, the aforementioned group came back up the hill. Much slower this time, and minus one of the pack,” he added.
Luckily for the driver he was able to walk away unscathed, which is more than can be said of his pride and his wallet. And, of course, the bright green 691bhp Lambo. Suffice to say, cars this powerful and expensive have a nasty tendency to bite back as this young driver found out the hard way.
