The Renault Megane Renaultsport Red Bull Racing RB8 has been given a UK price. The ultra-limited hatchback will cost £28,245 on-the-road. A mere 30 cars will be brought to the UK to celebrate Red Bull Racing’s third Formula One Constructors title.
How does Renault justify such a high price tag for a model that usually starts at a more modest £16,745? Well, there’s a lot of Red Bull branding throughout the car such as on the special Recaro seats, carpet mats and numbered aluminium kickplates that tell you which of the 30 examples you own.
There’s also a one-off Twilight Blue and Platinum grey paintjob that pays homage to the race team’s colours a monochrome laurel on the rear side window to celebrate the 2012 Constructor’s title.
The Renault Megane Renaultsport 265 Trophy provides the underpinnings of the Redbull RB8. This means a sizable 265bhp to play with courtesy of a 2-litre turbo petrol lump, limited slip differential, stiffer, sportier suspension, red Brembo front brake calipers and grooved discs, 19-inch alloys, anti-roll bar and special Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tyres.
There’s also the R-link multimedia tablet for controlling all your infotainment needs such as navigation, music and vehicle information, all of which can be controlled via voice, the 7-inch touchscreen display or a joystick situated on the centre console.
As part of the Renaultsport Monitor 2.0 software and R-Link, it’s possible to record your GPS-tracked lap times, check out a special Red Bull Racing home page, save data to a USB stick and view other performance focussed bits and bobs like your 0 to 62mph time and G-force exerted, if you so desire.
