Stop the presses — the Seat Toledo is back! OK, it’s hardly earth-shattering news, but if you’re into saloons or you have vaguely positive memories of possibly having seen one once then you might want to set aside some time to check out this new car.
Seat reckons the latest Toledo has the ‘elegance of a coupe’. We’ll give it the ‘elegant’ part but you’ll need liberal amounts of squinting and a huge dollop of imagination to confuse it for anything but a saloon.
That said, it’s a neat-looking, inoffensive car with some clever design features. Take the boot, for example. It looks like it features an ordinary boot lid, but it actually opens via a wide hatch for easy access and provides ‘generous’ amounts of space. The new Toledo also has a wheelbase that’s 80mm longer than the previous model, so all passengers get a bit more legroom.
Seat has confirmed a range of engines, petrols with 1.2- and 1.4-litre displacements a diesel that’s available in a choice of power levels. Seat will also offer super-frugal Ecomotive models in both petrol and diesel forms. The pick of the bunch appears to be the diesel Ecomotive model, which is said to offer ‘best in class’ CO2 emissions of 104g/km.
Ford’s lowest emissions Mondeo, for reference, spews 114g/km.
We’ll have to wait to see whether the Toledo’s as-yet-unconfirmed economy figures match its rivals, and whether it’s competitively priced. Watch out for further info closer to its 2013 launch date.
