Daimler is well known to dress up its Smart ForTwo in various outfits to suit the occasion. Hell, it’ll even dress the thing up in things that don’t suit any occasion at all (Smart ForJeremy, anyone?). This time, it has chosen to embrace the skills of Danish urban interior design specialist BoConcept to add a dash of style to the city-conquering runaround.
The Smart BoConcept is based on the Smart ForTwo Passion, but features a few aesthetic changes to set it apart from its brethren. It comes in matt crystal white (good luck keeping that looking clean) and has splashes of matt oriental brown on the mirror caps, alloy wheels, tridion safety cell and – on the cabrio version – a brown soft top roof.
Inside, you can expect yet more yummy brown. “Sumptuous tobacco brown leather” covers the Smart BoConcept’s seats, steering wheel, door trims and dashboard, while woven light lemon and grey felt provides some much-needed brightness. You also get a panoramic sunroof, oak gear knob – a first for a Smart car – and the “BoConcept” name proudly displayed on the seats and floor mats so you and your passengers know your ForTwo is anything but run of the mill.
This being a special edition, Mercedes Benz has been generous with the standard kit. The Smart ForTwo BoConcept is equipped with a car stereo and navigation system that has a 6.5-inch touchscreen. Then there’s AUX, Bluetooth, iPod and USB connectivity for connecting things, electric power-steering, automatic air-conditioning, ambient lighting, heated seats and LED daytime running lights.
There are also a number of Brabus enhancements, including a front spoiler and side skirts, ‘Xclusive’ headlights, sports exhaust, Monoblock VII alloy wheels and sportier suspension for zipping around town.
Of course, that luxury design comes at a cost. The ForTwo BoConcept starts at £22,135 on the road for the coupe, while the sun-seeking cabrio soft top starts at £24,515. Suddenly the Smart Electric Drive sounds like a bargain ─ but who doesn’t like copious amounts of brown leather?
