Steven Tyler has never been the shy, retiring type. As if to illustrate that point, the flamboyant Aerosmith front man has splashed out on the world’s fastest convertible. Tyler recently took delivery of the beautiful, and ridiculously powerful Hennessey Venom GT Spyder, which can out-accelerate a Bugatti Veyron.

Impressively, Steven is the first person in the world to order one in Spyder form. According to Hennessey Peformance chief John Hennessey, “Steven came to us and asked if we could build his Venom GT as a roadster. We had to make a few structural changes to our integrated roll cage in order to be able to fit the removable top.”
But modify it they did. The company set about making tweaks that added around 30lbs (13.6kg) to the car’s 2,743lbs (1,244kg) curb weight. That left Hennessey Performance with no choice but to increase the car’s power by 44bhp. “We decided to increase the Venom GT’s power to 1,244bhp to maintain our one horsepower-per-on-kilogramme power to weight,” said Hennessey.
In total, the car’s 6.2-litre twin-turbo V8 now produces enough grunt to help it accelerate from 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds, which is pretty quick. More impressive, however, is the fact it’ll also do 0-200mph in 15.3 seconds.
The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport manages it in a comparatively tardy 22.2 seconds, while the Koenigsseg Agera R does the same in a claimed 17.68 seconds.
It remains to be seen whether Steven Tyler will ever attempt to exploit the car’s full performance, but we’ve got to give the man full credit for requesting the thing in the first place. If you’d like to join him, Hennessey Performance is offering the Venom GT Spyder for a surprisingly reasonable £696,731.
