Tesla CEO ready to give us the D

Tesla Motors has revealed a teaser shot of what the company is referring to as the Model D.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk posted an update via Twitter last night, claiming it was ‘about time to unveil the D and something else’, attaching a cryptic image of a car emerging from a garage with the letter ‘D’ emblazoned across it. Below that is a date pertaining to when we can expect the full unveiling: October 9 2014.

Currently, we know very little about the D, although Musk has, in the past, hinted that Tesla Motors intends to release a ‘budget’ saloon priced beneath the Model S, likely to be known as the Model 3, as well as a Model X all-electric SUV.

Given the low, sporty stance, it’s more likely to be a saloon – possibly the Model 3 with a new name. That being the case, the Model D would probably go up against cheaper versions of the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, although we can’t ignore the possibility of it being something else altogether.
