Test drive ends in crashed Ferrari 458 Speciale

£208,000 Ferrari 458 Speciale wrecked while being taken out by a potential owner.

We’ve all been suffered the embarrassment of trying to reverse park in front of a crowd of people and making a complete pig’s ear of it. But that is nothing compared with one motorist who managed to crash a £208,000 Ferrari 458 Speciale within minutes of getting into it.

Stacking such a beautiful machine would be bad enough, except this particular prancing horse was shot in the paddock during a test drive. The anonymous driver had been taking his potential purchase out for a spin, having rocked up at the Lancaster Ferrari garage in Colchester, Essex.

The Mirror newspaper report says the Ferrari faux pas happened on the A12 in Essex. Somehow the driver managed to smack into a Volkswagen Bora before ploughing into the central reservation.

Eye-witness Michael Carpenter, who photographed the damage, said the Ferrari had been overtaking traffic in the outside lane between Dedham and Langham.

“I was driving down the A12 on Saturday when I got stuck in traffic, I saw the police move a VW Bora onto the hard shoulder. It was then I saw the Ferrari with damage to the front and rear corners,” Carpenter said.

“When I drove past, the salesman from the dealership was on the phone and the driver was looking very sheepish,” he added.

While the exact cause of the crash is unknown, we understand no arrests have been made in connection with the (ego-destroying) incident. It is also unclear whether the driver will be buying a new Ferrari or not.

A Ferrari spokesperson said: “Ferrari takes the privacy and confidentiality of its clients very seriously, and therefore we are unable to provide any information about an incident of this type to a third party, except the necessary authorities where we are asked to do so.”

The driver should go a little easy on himself. A Ferrari 458 Speciale is a track-focussed version of a very potent supercar. It weighs a mere 1,290kg and, thanks to a 596bhp 4.5-litre V8 engine, can hit 0 to 62mph in 3 seconds. 0 to 124mph takes 9.1 seconds. Just ask Lethal Bizzle how fast it goes.
