UK has the world’s fourth most expensive diesel

Diesel in the UK is the fourth most expensive in the world, new figures have revealed. Research by this is Money and Looking4Parking.com show the average price of diesel in Britain is £1.41 per litre – just 9p shy of Norway, which has the most expensive diesel on the planet.

Norway, Italy, Turkey and the UK rounded out the top four most expensive nations, while Israel, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Finland were shown to offer lower rates for the fuel. Ireland and Germany were the best of a bad bunch, with diesel prices quoted as being £1.26 per litre.

It’s not all bad news for Brits, however. The study suggests UK motorists only spend 7.9 per cent of their monthly income after tax on diesel. Diesel in Turkey, which has the third highest diesel prices in the world, accounts for a huge 25.8 per cent of monthly post-tax income.

Diesel in Norway, by way of contrast, accounts for 5.2 per cent of monthly spend.

The full top 10 list of the world’s highest diesel prices are listed below, with fuel spend calculations based on 833.33 miles per month at 40mpg. Nine out of the 10 most expensive nations are European, with the highest proportion being Scandinavian.
