Usain Bolt and Nissan partner for GT-R ad campaign

What’s faster than Usain Bolt? Usain Bolt with his foot to the floor in a Nissan GT-R, it would seem. The Jamaican sprint superstar and the Japanese motor company have joined forces in a new global ad campaign to promote Nissan cars online and at airports around the world.

Bolt, who has owned a Nissan GT-R since 2009, was a natural choice for Nissan, seeing as he’s inhumanly quick — a bit like the company’s GT-R sports car. The 100m world record holder can complete 0-100m in 9.58 seconds, while the GT-R manages 0-100kmh in just 2.8 seconds.

“Nissan GT-R is a wonderful car and perfect for me,” said Bolt. “I love everything in it. I enjoy driving it, and I feel completely safe, and that is the key thing for me.”

It’s hardly surprising safety is near the top of Bolt’s priority list. In 2009, the sprint star was involved in a major accident when he lost control of his BMW M3 — a gift from his sponsor Puma — crashing upside down in a ditch.

That said, speed isn’t too far down his list of priorities, either. Bolt has been regularly spotted frolicking in various Ferraris, including a Ferrari F430 Spider he once described as his ‘dream car’.

The first ad featuring Bolt and the Nissan GT-R will appear in major airports around the globe on June 1st. It will then reach all major international airports soon after.
