This time next year, UK roads will be teeming with Vauxhall Adam superminis, so you may as well crane your neck, sit a little closer to your computer and have a proper gander at these pictures to get used to the thing.
Available to take home from February 2013, the Vauxhall Adam will be available in three trim levels – Jam, which is apparently ‘fashionable and colourful’, Glam, which is ‘elegant and sophisticated’ and Slam, which is the ‘sporty’ one. The trim options will sell for £11,255, £12,650 and £13,150, respectively.
Once you’ve chosen your trim, you can then pick from 12 trendily-named body colours including “I’ll be black”, “papa don’t preach”, “purple friction”, “james blonde”, “saturday white fever” and – “excuse us while we puke beige”. OK, we made that last one up but you get the picture.
The Vauxhall Adam will be available with three petrol engines – 1.2-litre 70PS, 1.4-litre 87PS and 1.4-litre 100PS. The entry-level unit manages a combined 56.5mpg and emits 118g/km, which isn’t bad, but it’s less impressive when you consider the 1-litre engine in the larger Ford Focus EcoBoost manages similar numbers while delivering more power. That said, Vauxhall is in the middle of developing a new small turbocharged petrol engine in the same mould as the impressive Ford unit.
The Adam’s Intellilink entertainment and information system should get a few tongues wagging. The car promises to connect to users’ smart phones, enabling access to personal playlists, photo galleries, phone books, videos and more. It’ll even let you control compatible apps on your handset. These include Stitcher, a global Internet radio app that complements the Adam’s DMB digital radio system (which comes as standard) and a maps application that sends the last stage of your journey to your handset to help you get from the car park to your final destination.
It all sounds pretty good and, like we said, it’ll likely take over our high streets like some sort of epidemic on wheels. Have a gander at the pics below and start saving your pennies now.
