Vauxhall Mokka price and specs confirmed

Vauxhall’s Mokka SUV will be priced at £16,995 when it arrives in November 2012, the company has confirmed. That’ll put it in direct competition with rivals such as the Nissan Qashqai, Kia Sportage, and just about every B-segment SUV being piloted by young families across the land.

The Mokka will come in three trim levels — S, Exclusiv and SE. All models will get a comprehensive equipment list that includes DAB radio, air conditioning, cruise control, aux-in for your MP3 players, a trip computer and a Descent Control System that allows smooth traversing of steep hills without you having to nurse the brakes.

Vauxhall is also throwing in a hill start assist function that lets you move your foot from the brake to the accelerator without the car rolling backwards on steep hills.

Plump for the Exclusiv model, a £1,000 premium, and you also get dual-zone electronic climate control, USB connection with Ipod control, Bluetooth, a leather steering wheel, front centre armrest, rain-sensitive wipers, anti-dazzle rear-view mirrors, front foglights and 18-inch wheels instead of the standard 16-inch items.

The top of the range SE model costs a further £2,500 but gives you all the above, and includes partial leather heated seats, a rear seat centre armrest with drinks holders, heated steering wheel, driver’s sunglasses holder, tinted rear windows and even fancier 18-inch rims.

A choice of three engines will be available at launch, including two petrols models. The 1.6-litre 16V 115PS with 5-speed transmission scuttles along at a decent pace, reaching 60mph in 12.2 seconds, while returning 43.5mpg and 153g/km of CO2. The 1.4-litre turbo 140PS with six-speed, four-wheel-drive transmission does the same sprint in 9.6 seconds, gets 44.8mpg and spews 149g/km.

Vauxhall also offers a 1.7-litre 130PS diesel lump that can be paired with manual or automatic, two- or four-wheel-drive transmissions. The most efficient of these is the two-wheel-drive model with start-stop system. This returns a healthy 60.1mpg and spits 124g/km, while achieving nippy 9.6-second 0-60mph time.

The Mokka can be ordered starting today from your friendly, neighbourhood Vauxhall dealer. It’ll arrive in showrooms starting November 2012.
