Video shows Robert Kubica returning to rally in style

Robert Kubica has undergone a remarkable recovery after nearly losing an arm in a motorsport accident. Not only is the former F1 driver alive, well and in possession of all his limbs, he’s jumped back on the proverbial horse in spectacular fashion by competing in and winning a rally event.

Robert Kubica nearly lost his arm 19 months ago, but the former F1 driver has returned to motorsport in impressive style.

As you’ll see in newly-acquired video of the event, 27-year-old Rob hasn’t lost the knack. The former BMW Sauber and Renault F1 driver piloted his Subaru WRC rally car to victory in the Ronde Gomitolo di Landa rally in Italy, beating his nearest competitor, WRC Mini-driving Omar Bergo, by more than a minute.

This impressive achievement shows Kubica has lost none of the talent or bravery that made him one of the most admired drivers in F1. Nor does he appear affected by the challenge of taking part in an event not too dissimilar to the one that could have ended his career and his life.

In February of 2011. Kubica left the road at high speed and collided with a crash barrier while driving a Skoda Fabia at the Ronde di Andora rally.

After a rescue attempt that lasted more than an hour, Kubica was pulled from the car and flown to hospital where it was confirmed he had suffered partial amputation of his forearm and fractures to his right elbow, leg and shoulder. As a result, he was in surgery for seven hours at a hospital near Genoa precluding him from the entire 2011 and 2012 F1 seasons.

There’s no certainty Robert has recovered sufficiently to allow a return to F1. Indeed, according to reports, he has only recovered partial movement in his injured arm. However there’s no denying he possesses the talent and resolve necessary. We wish him all the luck in the world. You can watch Robert for yourself by hitting play on the video below.
