Fast & Furious 7 has only been in UK cinemas less than a month, but already rumblings of the eight installment are shaking the tarmac below our feet.
The news of Fast & Furious 8 comes from Vin Diesel, who was speaking at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. He told the audience: “I swear to you and my brother upstairs, we are going to make the best movie you’ve ever seen.”
Diesel was, of course, referencing the late Paul Walker who died during filming of Fast & Furious 7, which is known as Furious 7 in the US. The star, who played Brian O’Conner, died in a Porsche Carrera GT accident.
Fast & Furious 7 sees the introduction of Deckard Shaw (played by Jason Statham), an ice-cold British bad guy out for revenge. Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel), Agent Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and the rest of the gang rally together to keep him from killing them and stop a world-changing surveillance tool from getting into the wrong hands.
Cue lots of explosions, car chases and a script so macho it probably had a beard when it was born. No doubt the eight installment will fall very, very close to the tree, given that it the current film has so far made more than US$1billion worldwide.
With Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond looking for a home other than Top Gear, maybe we could see a cameo role? Clarkson’s right hook would be more than a match for Statham, that’s for sure.
