VW’s latest sports utility vehicle is upon us. The 2015 Touareg will be available to order from August 27th, with the first UK deliveries arriving in November. Prices start from £43,000.
A choice of two diesel engines keep it simple. There’s a 3.0-litre V6 TDI with 204PS (201bhp) that emits 173g/km of CO2 emissions, a reduction of 11g/km on the previous model. Fuel economy is said to be 42.8mpg.
Next up is another 3.0-litre V6 TDI, only with 262PS (258bhp). CO2 emissions and fuel economy are the same, except in the case of the four-wheel Escape model, which comes in at 40.9mpg and 180g/km. All engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Revised bumpers, grilles, new paintjobs, bi-xenon headlights as standard and new alloy wheel designs separate the old Touareg from the new. Inside you get lumbar support on the front seats as standard on top of two new optional wood trims (Sapelli Mahogany and Engineered Ebony).
SE is the entry-level spec, which includes 19-inch Salvador alloy wheels, RNS 850 sat-nav and eight-inch touchscreen display, DAB digital radio, two-zone climate control, leather upholstery, front fog lights, parking sensors and chrome roof rails.
In addition to adding 4XMotion four-wheel drive, Escape has higher off-road suspension, 18-inch alloys, larger fuel tank (100 instead of the standard 85 litres), black roof rails, underbody protection and a headlight cleaning system.
At the top is R-Line, which gets a bodykit, wheel arch extensions, 20-inch alloys, lowered sports suspension, panoramic glass sunroof and LED daytime running lights. Inside are R-Line seats and sportier pedals. Keyless entry and start and a powered tailgate represent some of the optional extras.
The entry-level Touareg SE with the 204PS TDI starts from £43,000, while the four-wheel drive Escape starts from £44,700. A top-spec R-LIne 262PS TDI costs from £47,500.
