VW Beetle given a styling refresh and R-Line trim

The VW Beetle has been given a few exterior styling tweaks to keep it fresh, as well as a sporty R-Line trim level and a revised interior.

The latest iteration of the VW Beetle Coupe, Cabriolet and Dune benefit from sharper lines on the front bumper and larger openings around the indicator and fog lights. In the case of the R-Line, which replaces the Sport, it also gets an extra air intake on the upper edge of the bumper.

The interior, meanwhile, now has brighter instrument panel lighting and, in the case of the Design and R-Design, new dials and a revised dash feature. New upholstery materials have also been added for a touch more customisation potential.

Various engines are available, including a 1.2-litre TSI with 105PS and 126g/km of CO2 emissions mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and a 2.0-litre TDI with 150PS and up to 130g/km, depending on the model, mated to either a six-speed manual or DSG automatic.

R-Line comes with 18-inch ‘Twister’ alloy wheels, the aforementioned unique R-Line bumper, body-coloured rear diffuser, chromed twin exhausts, R-Line logos throughout the cabin, gloss black door mirrors and door protectors and a rear tailgate spoiler.

It also gets a leather-trimmed three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with coloured stitching. As for the seats, a ‘Kylami’ cloth is used, with height and lumbar adjustment available for the driver and front passenger.

Those who opt for the VW Beetle Design trim level can add a touch of sportiness in the form of the Black Style Pack, which comprises 17-inch ‘Rotor’ black alloy wheels, black painted roof, black air intake grille, black decorative trim stripes and black wing mirror housing for £625.

Other options include the ‘Fender’ premium sound system with eight speakers and a subwoofer (£545), 17-inch ‘Orbit’ alloy wheels in red (£100 for the Beetle Design) and the Design Trim, which adds a splash of colour in the cabin (£125).

An entry-level VW Beetle Coupe 1.2TSI starts from £16,820, £19,775 for the Cabriolet 1.2TSI and £21,280 for the off-roader Dune variant, rising to £28,545 for a top-spec Dune. Expect to pay from £23,540 for the R-Line. It is available to order now.
