Is the Bugatti Veyron’s star fading? The once untouchable hypercar is still officially the fastest production model on the planet, but it’s been filmed having its elegant backside handed to it on more than one occasion; firstly by a Koenigsegg Agera S and now by a humble Nissan Juke.
In this video posted on DragTimesInfo, the 1,001bhp Veyron can be seen lining up for a drag race against the boxy little Nissan. There should be only one winner, except for the fact the Juke in question isn’t the same hatchback you buy at your local Nissan dealership – it’s the Juke-R, a souped up 545bhp rocket that uses GT-R undergubbins.
Even so, we can’t help but be surprised by how close run a race this is. The Juke-R absolutely smokes the Bugatti off the line, partly because it’s quicker than pretty much any supercar in a straight line and partly because the Veyron driver has the reactions of a stoned tortoise, taking over a second to respond to the changing lights.
Even after such a tardy start, one would assume the Veyron would pull its socks up and romp past the little Nissan, but that’s simply not the case. The Juke-R digs in and maintains some semblance of a gap as the pair close on the finish line. As they reach the end of the strip, it’s almost too close to call, but a photo finish reveals the Veyron has saved itself considerable embarrassment by claiming a narrow victory.
Veyron 1:0 Juke-R then… But only just. Watch the video below to see the action for yourself.
