Channel 4’s 4seven catch-up service has touched down on Sky, Virgin Media and Freeview 4seven is basically Channel 4’s take on the BBC’s iPlayer, a catch-up service that lets you view a selection of Channel 4 programmes from the last seven days.
Titles like Supersize vs Superskinny, Undercover Boss, Jamie’s 30 Minute Meals and Location, Location, Location and others will be available to watch now, with more favourites joining the line up.
What Channel 4 selects to go into 4seven’s roster depends on popularity, gauged in part from social media noise. So if you want to see more (or less) of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding then you’ll need to get on Twitter and make your voice heard.
Sky subscribers can access 4seven on channel 140, Virgin Media customers can get it on channel 195 and Freeview viewers can get it on channel 47.
Virgin Media TiVo customers too will be able to integrate 4seven programmes into their WishLists, with the TiVo box learning what customers like to offer tailored recommendations.
iPhone and iPad owners can also download an app which currently gives you preview clips of programmes instead of full episodes. Working with devices running iOS 4.3 and above, you can stream clips over 3G or Wi-Fi.
As well as finally launching a counterpart to iPlayer, 4seven also compliments 4oD, Channel 4’s archive service.
There’s no word yet on whether 4seven will be coming to YouView, the subscription free platform which blends digital terrestrial TV with catch-up and on demand features. Given that Channel 4 is a board member of YouView we imagine it’s in the pipeline, just no word of exactly when yet.
UPDATE: Freesat has just announced via its Twitter account that 4seven is available to watch now at channel 127:
