Amazon adds WiFi-free HD streams and AirPlay support to Instant Video for iOS

Amazon now lets you stream content over 3G and 4G as well as WiFi and in HD to boot. 

The updated app also lets you stream content in HD to Apple TV via AirPlay, letting you watch the likes of Ripper Street, Vikings and Outlander in better quality than before. 

You can download the new version of the Amazon Instant Video app from the iTunes App Store now (requires iOS 7 or later).

You can also stream Amazon content on your Xbox One and Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and 4, through bespoke apps. You can also watch on the web through Amazon’s main site and through Amazon’s own Fire TV and Fire TV Stick mini streamers, as well as the Amazon Fire Phone and Kindle Fire tablets. 

Prime Instant Video costs either £5.99/month or is included free with a £79/year Amazon Prime account. 

Recently, Amazon revealed that it had signed up Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May for £160 million to work on the spiritual sequel to Top Gear. Clarkson was forced to leave the BBC following a highly publicised spat with producer Oisin Tymon, which followed years of scandals and gaffes. 

The new Clarkson, Hammond and May show is due to land on Amazon next year.
