Amazon and Lovefilm move into original drama with Harry Bosch

Amazon Studios is to make an original drama series based on Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch novels.

The move into drama follows on from an earlier focus on comedies and kids shows. It has giving the go-ahead to its first drama pilot, Bosch, a police procedural based on Michael Connelly‘s novels about Harry Bosch, a veteran police homicide detective with the Los Angeles Police Department.

Harry Bosch has appeared in 20 of Connelly’s novels, going back to the 1992 book The Black Echo. Connelly’s latest Bosch book is The Black Box, which released last autumn.

Amazon Studios has greenlit the pilot and the series should be available via Lovefilm’s video streaming service in the UK as well as through Amazon Instant in the US but no firm date has been divulged.

Last month, Amazon and Lovefilm picked up five comedy and children’s TV shows to graduate to full seasons a month after putting 14 pilot episodes online for free.

Alpha House, starring John Goodman, and Silicon Valley startup story Betas, won the comedy commissions alongside kids’ shows Annebots, Creative Galaxy and Tumbleaf.
