Prime Instant Video becomes more kid-friendly thanks to Amazon-Viacom deal

Amazon has signed a deal which will see Kung Fu Panda and Dora the Explorer and a host of other kid-centric content coming to Prime Instant Video.

While Prime Instant Video is perhaps better known for signing up and reviving violent hack and slash fests like Vikings and Ripper Street, the deal with content giant Viacom sees more family-friendly content, including Awkward, Legend of Awesomeness, Penguins of Madagascar, Winx Club, Legend of Korra and The Hard Times of RJ Berger coming exclusively to Amazon’s subscription streaming service.

Other shows like Dora the Explorer, Hey Arnold! and Rugrats are also coming to Prime Instant Video as part of the deal, but will be available on a non-exclusive basis.

Something for all the family: Amazon Fire TV now offers subscribers more family-friendly content

Chris Bird, director of content strategy at Amazon Instant Video EU said: “With hugely popular shows available to stream unlimitedly ranging from family friendly Penguins of Madagascar to American teen comedy Awkward, there’s something to suit every age group, taste and mood.

“Varied, quality content is our top priority so we’re always looking out for opportunities to forge partnerships which help make this possible.”

Both Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda, Legend of Awesomeness are offshoots of the animated films.

Kung Fu Panda features Lucy Liu and James Hong voicing characters Viper and Mr. Ping, while animated adventure Penguins of Madagascar follows penguins Skipper, Rico, Kowalski and Private as in the film.

Teen comedy series Awkward and David Katzenberg/Seth Grahame-Smith’s The Hard Times of RJ Berger will keep the teens happy, alongside reality TV shows Geordie Shore, Jersey Shore and The Hills that have just been re-signed to the service.

Stand up from Rufus Hound, Stewart Lee and Russell Brand will also hit the streaming service alongside comedy series Comedy Central Roasts with Charlie Sheen, James Franco and David Hasselhoff.

The news about Amazon Prime Instant Video’s line up comes after the launch of Amazon Fire TV and the Amazon Fire phone in the UK, both of which offer access to the streaming service while at home or on the go.
