Control Nest from your Apple Watch thanks to IFTTT’s Do Button

A new recipe for the IFTTT Do button lets you control your Nest smart thermostat using your Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch has been touted as having many uses, from basic functionality, such as quickly reading texts and emails, through to changing your music without having to dip into your pocket and fish out your phone, but a new macro for the IFTTT Do button will let you go a step further and control your Nest thermostat from the comfort of your new wearable.

In simple terms, the Do button lets you set up commands for your smart home systems, which you can toggle with a touch of the aforementioned button, from your Android or iOS device.

It’s a simple yet elegant solution will give you some of the functionality promised by Apple’s HomeKit system, with added support for Android and less mystery microchips.

You can change your lights, save notes, fire off photographs via email, you name it, and now you can ensure that your home is nice and toasty simply by tapping a button on your shiny new Apple Watch.

All you need to do is install the Do button app for your device and then head over to the IFTTT blog and add the recipe. You’ll be able to customise it to your liking, so if you’re a lizard-type you can crank it up to 80 degrees, and then all you’ll have to do is hit a button and everything else will be taken care of.
