BBC One adopting English regional names on Freeview and YouView

The name of BBC One will change today for Freeview and YouView customers, as regional names start to roll out.

BBC One in London will now appear as BBC One Lon in the programme guide and BBC One East Midlands will appear as BBC One E Mids.

There will be no changes to programming or logos on channels, it’s just the programme guide that’s changing today.

London Calling: BBC One have a different name depending on where you view it in England

The BBC announced in July 2013 that it would be launching regional variations of BBC One HD in England, while viewers in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales will eventually get regional versions of BBC Two HD.

National variations of BBC One HD have already launched in every country except England. The BBC operates 12 separate regions in the UK: North East and Cumbria, North West, Yorkshire, Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, East Midlands, West Midlands, East, West, South, London, South East and South West.

The news was announced when the BBC revealed plans to launch BBC Three HD, BBC Four HD and BBC News HD alongside kids channels CBBC HD and Cbeebies HD.

The new HD channels launched on December 10, 2012 on Sky, Virgin Media, Freeview, YouView and Freesat

No launch date for any regional BBC One channels has been announced yet.
