BBC Three comedy commissions include eight iPlayer exclusives

BBC Three has announced new comedy commissions, including eight comedies that will be BBC iPlayer exclusive.

The new comedy pilots include Bamboo, a show about two posh idiots who try to set up their own night club, Going Native, a mockumentary starring Mona Yusefi who plays three different foreign women and C Bomb, set in the apparently fictional South Yorkshire dubstep scene.

Nick Helm, star of BBC Three’s Live at the Electric, will present his own Heavy Entertainment show on iPlayer alongside getting a starring role in a BBC Three comedy show Uncle.

As well as creating high-quality online-only content a la Netflix Originals, part of the BBC’s plans are to use iPlayer as a test bed for what shows get the go ahead for digital TV development.

Shane Allen, Controller, Comedy Commissioning, says: “This wide range of shows and new talents cement BBC Three’s place as the key channel for emerging comedy stars. Nick Helm is the most exciting writer/performer I’ve seen in years and the Comedy Feeds show serious commitment to finding the next best voices and faces of British comedy.”

Zai Bennett, Controller, BBC Three added: “To ensure we keep finding the hits of the future we are also soon showcasing our latest batch of eight Comedy Feed pilots on BBC iPlayer.”

One of last year’s comedy pilots, a mockumentary about a pirate radio station with the working title of People Just Do Nothing, has today been greenlit for full on BBC Three TV production.

As for the upcoming eight comedy shows, we don’t know exactly when they’ll land on BBC iPlayer but we’ll update once we start hearing about dates.
