Blinkbox music app hits 1.5 million downloads, plans Sonos integration

Binkbox is to develop an app for the popular wireless music streaming system Sonos.

The Tesco-backed music service said it is looking to put itself on the player following its announcement that its app has reached 1.5 million downloads.

The music streaming service, which offers access to over 12 million songs, has seen huge mobile growth, according to figures released by the service. Nine out ten users (92 per cent) now access the service via their smartphone or tablet.

Blinkbox said that users accessing the service via Android devices have recently overtaken those using the iPhone or iPad. Users can listen to pre-made stations (i.e. Top 40, Eurovision, Britpop), or can create their own station by selecting a song or artist and letting blinkbox music do the rest.

Managing Director Mark Bennett said: “Our new app for Sonos demonstrates our ambition to deliver a great music experience both on the move and in the home.”

“Our service has seen extraordinary growth, particularly on mobile which is now well established as the most popular way to access and enjoy entertainment.”

“The consistently high reviews of our app in both the Apple and Google stores are testament to the fact that users are clearly loving our simple approach to music discovery and enjoyment.”

The service is available for free with adverts or without ads for a subscription of £1 a week that also gives listeners 100 individual tracks to save to their phone or tablet and organise into playlists.

Blinkbox music is one of three Tesco owned digital entertainment services alongside Blinkbox Movies and Blinkbox Books.
