BT Sport has added highlights from the first year of the Formula E electric car racing championship to its motorsport roster.
The hour-long show after each race will include extensive highlights of the race, qualifying and practice sessions, plus exclusive interviews with the drivers and other news and features around the new sport.
BT Sport already has the rights to show races and highlights from motorsports including MotoGP, the FIA World Rally Championship, World Series by Renault, IndyCar and V8 Supercars.
Ali Russell, director of media at Formula E, said: “I’m pleased to announce this deal with BT Sport on top of our existing agreement with ITV.
“This is a bonus for fans in the UK as they will now have not one but two channels to watch the FIA Formula E Championship. BT Sport has really hit the ground running with an ever increasing number of subscribers and world-class coverage.”
BT Sport is the latest national TV service to show Formula E racing, with live coverage on ITV4 in the UK, and broadcasters worldwide including FOX Sports, TV Asahi, CANAL+ and China’s CCTV.
Formula E’s first round will commence on September 1 in Beijing, China, with other meets in Putrajaya (Malaysia), Punta del Este (Uruguay), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Miami (USA), Long Beach (USA), Monte Carlo (Monaco), Berlin (Germany) and London (UK).
It was revealed last year that both BT and Sky were in talks with Formula E to offer the sport on their networks, following the announcement the electric-powered car racing would be launching in September this year.
The motorsport has attracted attention from some of the major car manufacturers including Audi as well as other rmultinational companies including Richard Branson’s Virgin.
