BT TV adds arthouse on demand with Curzon Home Cinema

BT has announced a deal with Curzon Home Cinema which will bring independent, world and arthouse films to the living room.

Launching today, the new on demand service provides access to titles including The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology, What Maisie Knew and Mister John. On October 25, the critically acclaimed The Selfish Giant will arrive on the service.

The film is the directorial debut of Clio Barnard and, rather fittingly for BT, is about two teenage boys who get caught up in copper theft.

Pay per view prices for films from Curzon Home Cinema on BT Vision and BT YouView will be £3.50 and £4 for new releases in SD and HD and £2.50 and £3 for modern greats in SD and HD. Prices for same day cinema releases are £10 in both SD and HD.

Mel Alcock, COO of Curzon, said: “We are delighted to announce this new and exciting partnership with BT. It’s a wonderful way to bring Curzon’s respected content to a bigger audience and we look forward to watching our relationship with BT grow in the coming months.”

Alex Green, director of TV, BT Consumer, added: “Films are fantastically popular with BT TV customers – they watch well over two million movies on demand every month. This exciting deal will give our customers the opportunity to see some of the very best films from Britain and around the world – many on the same day they go on release in the cinema.”

This news arrives in the wake of the BFI announcing that its BFI Player service will be available on web browsers from October 9. Launching first on Samsung Smart TVs, BFI Player will provide access to similar titles, including The Selfish Giant for more or less the same prices, and come with a large archive of free to view content as well. Samsung Smart TV owners have also been able to enjoy Curzon’s on demand services for a little over a year now.
