Buffalo Airstation Nfiniti adds Powerline network to compact WiFi router

Buffalo has combined Powerline networking and faster WiFi into a single router and adapter kit for the first time with its Airstation Nfiniti range.

The WPL-05G300 Powerline, Router and Wireless Access Point plugs into a power socket and connects to your broadband modem or existing router via Ethernet.

It has an extra 10/100 Ethernet port and WiFi B, G and N support enabling up to 300Mbps wireless connections (or about half that in practice).

It can also be used as a wireless range extender to provide a WiFi connection beyond the range of your router’s own WiFi service.

The PL-05H Powerline adapter connects to a power socket anywhere on your mains network using the Homeplug AV2 standard, with a single Ethernet port for attaching to equipment.

This has a top speed of 500Mbps but real world performance is likely to be up to 200Mbps each way.

The compact units are about twice the size of a typical DC power brick, with a three-pin plug on the back for connecting to your mains power.

“Buffalo has always been at the forefront of wireless technology, proven by the delivery of the first Draft G and Draft N wireless products to the market,” said Paul Hudson, sales director for Northern Europe at Buffalo Technology.

“The launch of the Powerline AirStation Nfiniti range is demonstration of Buffalo’s ongoing commitment to innovation, engineering excellence and enabling consumers to use current and future technology in the home.”

Buffalo hasn’t announced prices for the WPL-05G300 and PL-05H, which will be on sale later this year.
