Residents of the Duddon Valley in Cumbria threatened with disconnection from the internet will be able to get Tooway satellite broadband from Bentley Walker.
The rescue package will see affected residents in the Duddon Valley and Branthwaite able to see install and set-up fees waived (which ranges from £49-£125) while benefitting from download speeds of 6Mbps to 10Mbps.
These are guaranteed speeds as well as they’re uncontented, so you will get the speed you pay for.
The area, previously served by Cable and Wireless, was in danger of losing its internet connection altogether after funding from the North West Development Agency ran out in March.
Cable and Wireless promised to find an alternative solution or come up with funding itself before totally pulling out.
Neil Robinson, Business Development Manager of Bentley Walker Ltd, stated:
“We are honoured to help out in any way we can to those living in areas suffering from inadequate internet access.
Many businesses and educational services throughout rural UK can suffer in profit, sustainability and overall effectiveness with a slow or non-existent internet connection. Satellite broadband is a great solution for those where cabling cannot be justified.”
Tooway 6 works out at £25 a month for 6Mbps down, 1Mbps up and an 8GB download cap. Tooway 8 gives you 8Mbps down, 2Mbps upload speeds and a 16GB cap for £37 a month.
Tooway 10 gives you download speeds of 10Mbps, 2Mbps uploads and a 26GB cap for £49 a month.
The priciest package, Tooway 10+ gives you the same 10Mbps download speed but doubles the upload speed to 4Mbps and increases monthly usage to 50GB.
UPDATE 06/07/2012: Satellite broadband subscribers using Bentley Walker and Tooway Direct’s services can now get download speeds of up to 18Mbps after a speed boost, making these the fastest satellite broadband services in the world.
