Discovery to launch new mystery and suspense channel

Discovery is to launch a new mystery and suspense channel aimed at women.

The channel, named ID Xtra, will be available in both standard and high definition and will start in the second quarter of 2014.

Among the new shows set to make their appearance on the new channel are Poisoned Passions, Beauty Queen Murders, Secret Lives of Stepford Wives, A Crime to Remember and Redrum

The broadcaster promises that the new channel will focus on stories of suspense and dramas about ordinary people who have gone off the rails. The channel builds upon the international roll out of its female-focused TLC channel, which launched in 2011 and male-focused ID.

Commenting on the launch, Paul Welling, SVP, Head of Channels, Discovery Networks Central & Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa said: “There is increased demand and opportunity in the market for factual mystery and suspense content which we have the experience and ability to fill and for this reason we have ambitious plans to roll ID Xtra out to as many as 105 markets across Central & Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa in 2014.”

“Many of our largest operators have already signed up and with drama at the forefront of this channel’s offering, viewers will be kept on the edge of their seat and watching for longer than other channels, as ID Xtra invites them to take a closer look and get under the skin of unsolved mysteries.”
